Gastro Health is looking for a Full-Time Grossing Technician!
The grossing technician will be responsible for examining and processing formalin-fixed human tissue specimens in a medical laboratory. This person must be highly organized and conscientious at all times.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have typing skills, medical terminology helpful, personal communication skills are imperative and willingness to learn basic lab policies and protocol.
Areas of responsibility will include, but not limited to:
- Grossly examine and process tissue specimens.
- Carefully input examination and analysis data into laboratory information system.
- Other duties may include:
- Responsible for specimen pick up from ASC and assisting in accessioning of cases.
- Comply with all safety and regulatory policies
- Routine handling of biohazard and/or chemical hazardous material.
- Assisting with changing chemical solutions in processors and strainers.
- Organize and deliver slides to the pathologist.
- Maintain, troubleshoot and running of non-complex automated equipment.
- Filing away pathology slides, blocks, and requisitions in an appropriate manner.
- Storing of slides and blocks in short and long term storage.
- Organizing of supplies delivered to the lab.
- All other duties as needed.
Education:
- Associates degree in Biology and Chemistry or MLT or prior experience as Gross Tech
- At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either: 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses
- 24 semester hours of science courses that include:
- Six semester hours of chemistry;
- Six semester hours of biology; and
- Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
